The Statistical Service of Cyprus has conducted a new study in which it analyzed the size of salaries of the islanders.
As it turned out, 40% of Cypriots and 59% of foreign citizens earn in Cyprus no more than 1.5 thousand euros per month. From 1.5 thousand euros to 3 thousand euros receive 39% of Cypriots and 27% of foreign citizens. In turn, 13% of Cypriots and 6% of foreigners have an income in the range from 3 thousand euros to 4.5 thousand euros. Only 5% of Cypriots and 3% of foreigners have salaries between 4.5 thousand euros and 6 thousand euros. Finally, 3% of Cypriots and 5% of foreigners earn more than 6 thousand euros in Cyprus.
According to the department, the amount of average earnings in the island state before taxes in 2022 amounted to 2.2 thousand euros. By the way, compared to 2021, this figure increased by 7.1%. At the same time, in real terms (taking into account the consumer price index) the average monthly earnings in Cyprus fell by 1.2% and reached a mark of 1.7 thousand euros.
The Statistical Service noted that the average salary in Cyprus, depending on the sector of economic activity ranges from 918 euros (agriculture) to 4.011 thousand euros (financial and insurance sector).
Let us remind you that in 2023 the average monthly salary in Cyprus increased and amounted to 2,217 thousand euros.
Average pre-tax earnings increased 7.2% in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2022. For men, the average salary is now 2,376 thousand euros, for women - 2,016 thousand euros.
At the same time, the minimum wage in Cyprus is one of the lowest in the EU and amounts to 940 euros per month before taxes and fees. For comparison, the highest European minimum wage is in Luxembourg, and the lowest in Bulgaria: 2,508 euros and 399, respectively.
