In the village of Prodromos, in the Troodos area, the maintenance and renovation of Cyprus' most famous hotel - the 'Berengaria' - is in full swing.
This was announced recently by project manager Andronikos Spirou.
According to him, the historic hotel should be operational by the end of 2027. The first two phases of the project have already been completed. They ran from October 2021 to June 2022 and from April to December 2023. During this time, the developer was able to carry out emergency repairs and preventive maintenance on the site. Specifically,
workers carried out a thorough cleaning and maintenance of the building's stone façade, repaired all damaged joints in the concrete structures both inside and outside the building. They also carried out additional reinforcements. The period from the beginning of 2024 to the end of May was used by the developer to complete all the architectural and structural studies.
We are currently in the third phase of the restoration, which started in June this year and is expected to be completed by May 2025. This will be followed by the final fourth phase, which is scheduled to run from June 2025 to the end of 2027. I would like to point out that all the relevant procedures and works for the complete renovation, which will maintain the protected status of the Berengaria Hotel property, are progressing according to this schedule," said Spirou.
The developer is currently dismantling the existing roof, which covers an area of around 1.5 thousand m2. The plan is to replace it with French-style tiles. This will maintain the general style of the hotel. The third phase also includes the completion of all concrete work inside the building.
