Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos spent the night in the new municipal hostel to personally assess its comfort. The Mayor was accompanied by TEPAC Rector Panayiotis Zafiris and other senior officials.
First, they prepared food and had dinner in the kitchen of the hostel, and then settled in the cosy rooms for future students to spend the night.
The night was comfortable, everything worked flawlessly. I am glad I was able to see for myself the quality of the facility,’ the mayor said the next morning.
According to Fedonos, the hostel is 99% ready for operation, both in terms of the condition of the building and its infrastructure. He noted that the rooms are equipped with everything necessary for students to live comfortably. They have a TV set, a modern kitchen area, a desk. In addition, the balcony is equipped with a small table with two chairs.
The practical approach allows us to check the infrastructure and ensure its high quality,’ Fedonos added.
.
Note that the first 140 TEPAC students, as well as 15 students from the American University of Beirut and 3 students from the University of Naples, will receive the keys to their rooms on Wednesday, 25 September. A little later, medical students from the universities of Nicosia, who are undergoing internships at Paphos Hospital, are scheduled to move into the new dormitory. Fedonos emphasised that during the design of the hostel, great attention was paid not only to the building, but also to the surrounding area. In particular the landscaping of the site and the provision of recreational facilities.
We endeavoured to create the best conditions for students,’ he said.
The construction of the facility, which cost 16 million euros, started last year and took 11 months. The new dormitory has 203 rooms. In the future, Paphos Municipality plans to expand the infrastructure around the building. Plans include: the construction of a basketball court, tennis courts and a car park.
We hope that this is the first of many such projects in Paphos,’ concluded Fedonos.
