Hadassah Opens Its First Medical Centre in Cyprus

Israel’s Hadassah Medical Organisation has officially opened its first medical centre in Europe in Limassol. It is the network’s first permanent presence outside Israel and marks an important stage in the organisation’s expansion in Cyprus.

The opening of the centre confirms the island’s growing role as an international medical hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. Over the next 12 months, Hadassah plans to open a new hospital in Nicosia and is also considering the construction of a large multidisciplinary hospital in Limassol.

Project Details

The official opening ceremony of Hadassah Medical Centre Limassol took place on Thursday, 30 July. Representatives of the Cyprus government, the medical community, business circles and public organisations attended the event. The blessing ceremony was conducted by Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol and Chief Rabbi of Cyprus Arie Zeev Raskin. Following the official programme, invited guests toured the new medical complex.

The medical centre will become the first permanent European division of Hadassah, one of Israel’s best-known medical organisations, which operates two university hospitals in Jerusalem.

The centre already offers:

  1. advanced diagnostic imaging;
  2. consultations with specialist doctors;
  3. laboratory diagnostics;
  4. rehabilitation programmes;
  5. preventive medicine and comprehensive health check-ups.

In addition, patients requiring advanced treatment will be able to receive a second medical opinion or a referral to Hadassah clinics in Israel. The Cyprus centre will support patients both before treatment and after it has been completed.

Another Hospital to Open in Cyprus Within the Next Year

The network’s expansion will not be limited to Limassol. Hadassah has confirmed that it intends to open a new hospital in Nicosia within the next 12 months. The project will include:

  1. 5 modern operating theatres;
  2. around 50 inpatient beds;
  3. a wide range of surgical and therapeutic services.

At the same time, the organisation is exploring the possibility of building an even larger Category A hospital in Limassol. The preliminary project specifications include:

  1. 8 to 10 operating theatres;
  2. more than 100 inpatient beds;
  3. high-tech departments and specialised medical centres.

Both facilities will form part of the large-scale Hadassah Healthcare Park programme, an integrated network of medical institutions combining diagnostics, treatment, scientific research and professional training.

Cyprus Strengthens Its Position as an International Medical Centre

Hadassah’s plans indicate further strengthening of cooperation between Cyprus and Israel in the healthcare sector. The organisation had previously considered building a large medical complex in the Lakatamia area but has now decided to implement the project in stages. This approach will allow the first medical facilities to begin operating sooner and enable the infrastructure to expand gradually in line with demand.

According to experts, investment by international healthcare operators confirms Cyprus’ attractiveness for the development of private healthcare. The island is already becoming a medical tourism hub thanks to its combination of European treatment standards, convenient transport connections, favourable climate and highly qualified medical professionals.

Particular attention is being given to patients from Europe, the Middle East and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, to whom Cyprus can offer high-quality medical care without long waiting times.
