On Wednesday, July 9, the Greek company Omiros Group officially announced its acquisition of shares in the Cypriot dairy producer A. Hadjipieris Ltd. through its subsidiary, Omiros Dairies Cyprus.
This agreement is a significant step in the group's expansion of its international presence in the PDO market.
Hadjipieris Ltd., which is well-known in Cyprus for producing traditional halloumi cheese and sheep's milk yogurt, will become Omiros's third production site and its first asset outside of Greece. According to the company's statement, Omiros intends to preserve the authenticity and traditions of Cypriot halloumi while developing its international expansion and export potential.
Ioannis Billis, an experienced manager well-acquainted with the dairy markets in Greece and Cyprus, has been appointed head of the Cypriot division.
The new owner intends to invest €5 million in the plant's development during the initial phase. The funds will be used to expand and modernize Hadjipieris Ltd.'s current production facilities. The main goal is to increase production to 5,500 tons of halloumi per year.
Furthermore, the company plans to build a new, high-tech plant over the next three years, which will double its current capacity to 12,000 tons per year. Omiros's total investment in Cyprus is expected to reach €30 million over five years.
