Luxury glamping sites will be built in Cyprus

The construction of luxury campsites, also known as glamping sites, is not unconstitutional and does not violate European Union law.

This was recently decided by the Supreme Court of Cyprus.

As a result, there are now no obstacles to the realisation of such projects. The only condition is that a permit must be obtained, as in the case of any other construction. Recall that in June 2024, the Cypriot Parliament approved an amendment to the 2018 law on the environmental impact assessment of construction projects, moving glamping from the second annex of the law to the first.

Incidentally, projects falling under the second annex are subject to environmental impact assessment studies as required. These include agricultural infrastructure facilities, hotels, tourist complexes outside urban areas, conventional campsites and casinos. First Annex projects are subject to such studies regardless of the circumstances. These include industrial facilities as well as marinas and golf courses.

Earlier, Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulidis sent the law to the Supreme Court for review, arguing that it may violate the principle of separation of powers and European directives on services within the single market, as well as the constitution. However, the presiding judge found that the law was in line with the constitution.

It should be remembered that glamping is a holiday in the countryside with all the amenities and full hotel services.

Another important aspect of glamping is that it is mobile and fits seamlessly into the environment without harming it. So glamping means living in light houses, comfortable tents or futuristic spheres in the middle of the wilderness, far from civilisation.

As the demand for holidays in the comfort of nature is growing rapidly in Cyprus, the establishment of glamping is a great opportunity to succeed in the field of eco-tourism. As you would expect, unlike traditional camping or tent camping, each accommodation at a glamping site in Cyprus is

1. Will be equipped with a toilet and bathroom with hot water;
2. Have a full, comfortable bed with bed linen instead of a sleeping bag;
3. Furnished with real furniture: tables, chairs and armchairs, instead of forest hemp or fallen trees;
4. will be catered for in the best hotel traditions, for example, meals will be prepared by a special guest chef.
