Residents and visitors to Cyprus have become more frequent users of short-term rentals.
This is confirmed by new data published by Eurostat on Thursday 3rd October.
The number of nights booked in short-term tourist accommodation in Cyprus rose to a record high of 625,877 in June 2024, compared to 494,033 in May and 401,466 in April this year. It should be noted that the report is based on data from platforms such as Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group and TripAdvisor.
In the EU, the number of nights booked through these online services totalled 208.8 million in the second quarter of 2024, an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2023.
Of these: 53.5 million nights were booked in April (- 1.8% compared to April 2023), 73 million in May (+31.7%) and 82.3 million in March (+17.8%).
According to the European Statistical Office, the country with the highest growth in short-term overnight stays in June was Germany (+45.8%). This was followed by Lithuania (+28.1%) and Sweden (+27.4%). On the other hand, Belgium, the Netherlands and Slovenia recorded the lowest annual growth rates in nights spent (+2.6%, +3.3% and +6% respectively).
