Cyprus to hold exams for estate agents

The Cyprus Real Estate Agents Registration Board announced this week that it will hold examinations for prospective professionals on Saturday 26 October 2024.

The board noted that the examination is required for anyone who wishes to be entered on the official register.

Board Chief Executive Marinos Kinegirou said: 'The written examinations are conducted in accordance with Section 11(1)(a)(v) of the Estate Agents Act. Their successful completion ensures that the professional has sufficient knowledge of the land and urban planning legislation of the Republic of Cyprus.

This knowledge is essential for the proper and responsible practice of real estate,' it added.

The announcement also mentions that the examinations will be conducted in Greek and that candidates will be required to demonstrate their understanding of a number of key legislative provisions. These include:

  1. The Immovable Property Law (ch. 224), which covers ownership, registration and valuation.
  2. The Conveyances and Mortgages Act (No. 9 of 1965).
  3. The Land and Survey Department Fees and Charges Act (Cap. 219).
  4. The Sale of Property Act, 2011 (No. 81(I)/2011), which focuses on specific indicators.

In addition, the examination will cover the Streets and Buildings Regulation Act (Cap. 96), the Town and Country Planning Act 1972 (No. 90/1972) and the Estate Agents Act 2010 (No. 71(I)/2010).

На Кипре пройдут экзамены для агентов по недвижимости

To take the exam, candidates must submit an electronic application to the council by 26 September 2024 and pay a fee of €100.

Kinegirou mentioned that applicants must meet the criteria set out in Article 11(1) of the Estate Agents Law, including being a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus or another EU member state, not being bankrupt, not having been convicted of an offence involving dishonesty or moral turpitude.

In addition, candidates must hold a recognised diploma attesting to the successful completion of a university course of at least three years' duration or its equivalent in subjects related to the real estate profession. They must also have completed at least 12 months of professional training as a registered estate agent in the Republic of Cyprus.
