Data from the statistical office Eurostat shows that in 2023, the EU tourism market surpassed the pre-pandemic level.
In particular, the number of nights spent in various tourist accommodation facilities reached 2.92 billion versus 2.87 billion four years earlier. The growth amounted to 1.6%. By the way, a new record was set in the EU tourist accommodation sector in 2023.
Interestingly, this was mainly due to an increase in the volume of new hotel and guesthouse stays by foreign tourists (+146 million), as this indicator in the segment of the local population increased by only 25 million. At the same time, compared to 2013, the number of overnight stays in EU countries increased by 25% or 2.33 billion.
In Cyprus in 2023, the number of nights spent in various tourist accommodation facilities jumped by 20% at once.
Therefore, the island of Aphrodite topped the EU ranking. By the way, the tourism industry of Cyprus is actively recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Similar indicators were recorded only in Malta. In Slovakia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Austria, Czech Republic, Latvia, Bulgaria, Portugal, Romania and Greece, the number of overnight stays increased by 10%. The outsider was Luxembourg, where interest in vacation rentals decreased by 0.1%. In absolute figures, the greatest growth in the number of nights spent by tourists was observed in Germany (+32.8 million nights) and Spain (+32.3 million nights).
