The Council of Ministers approved today a proposal of the Minister of Justice and Public Order Emily Giolitis, for the announcement of an International Architectural Competition for the study and design of the Nicosia Courthouse.
The Courthouse will have a total area of 27 000 m2, with three basements with a total area of 17 000 m2. and will be a modern, integrated courthouse.
The building will be designed and constructed according to the most current technology and energy specifications.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Justice, it will be erected north of the Nicosia District Court's existing facilities. It will house the Civil, Criminal, Property Management and Primary Applications Departments and the Administrative, Commercial, Family, Military, Military, and Commercial Courts, as well as Library and Cafeteria.
The architectural competition is scheduled to be announced in early 2021. The winner will be presented at the end of the same year.
The construction works will start in 2023.
"As it is well known, the existing building complex, which was built in 1919, is insufficient in terms of structure and functionality. It is noted in the same announcement, while it is added that the need to create a New District Court of Nicosia has been diagnosed since 1985.
Today, with the Council of Ministers' approval, the Minister of Justice and Public Order's proposal took the first step for the creation of the grand project, the Nicosia Courthouse.
