For the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, American magazine Forbes has published a ranking of the best countries for retirees to live out their days in peace and comfort.
Cyprus came out on top.
The main criteria for choosing the best places for the elderly were safety, quality of medical care, convenient rules for disposing of their property and finances, favourable climate and lack of problems with visas or obtaining citizenship, level of security and political stability, as well as a rich culture.
As a result, Cyprus was ranked first. Among the main advantages of the island nation, Forbes analysts highlighted the low cost of living compared to the US, acceptable crime rate and political stability, as well as an affordable public healthcare system, ease of obtaining a residence permit, favourable taxation, reasonable property prices and the absence of language barriers.
Greece comes second and Ireland third. Next are: Italy, Latvia, Austria, France, Malta, Portugal and Spain. Each country in the top 10 has its own advantages and disadvantages, so your choice should be based on your own motives and preferences.
