As part of the “THALIA 2021–2027” program, a large-scale initiative is being implemented across Cyprus to create and renovate parks, with a total budget of €55 million. The project is funded by the European Union, the government, and municipalities, aiming to strengthen social cohesion, improve quality of life, and develop a sustainable urban environment.
Parks are more than just beautification elements. They are living spaces where people meet, relax, exercise, and develop a sense of community. Especially amid the fast pace of life in Cypriot cities, they become true oases of tranquility, ecology, and health.
A Model for the Capital: The New Face of the Old GSP Stadium
One of the main symbols of the program is the transformation of the old GSP Stadium in Nicosia into a modern green park. The project, with a budget of €27.3 million, was completed in early 2025. Today, it is a spacious area for leisure, gatherings, cultural events, and walks, with easy access to public transport. The park includes an amphitheater, café, pedestrian paths, and relaxation zones.
Larnaca Becomes a City of Parks
Thanks to the government program, several major initiatives are underway in Larnaca. Salina Park, completed in November 2024 at a cost of €3.2 million, has become a true “green lung” of the city, featuring an artificial lake, bike paths, playgrounds, and shaded relaxation areas under Cypriot trees.
The reconstruction of Pattichio Park, with a budget of €6.6 million, is also underway, including a botanical garden, active recreation areas, an amphitheater, and even a dog park. Completion is expected in early 2026. Additionally, in the Tsiakkilero area, a multifunctional park of 9,300 m² with a budget of €2.3 million is being developed, scheduled to open by the end of 2025.

Limassol and Ayia Napa: New Attractions
In Limassol, the construction of a park on Gogen Street was completed in August 2024, a €2.3 million project that serves as a modern example of a “smart” and accessible public space with areas for sports, concerts, and leisure. In the Agios Ioannis area, a new park near Aetos Stadium, costing €1.1 million, features green avenues, playgrounds, and comfortable relaxation zones.
Meanwhile, in Ayia Napa, a multifunctional city park of 27,500 m² with a budget of €4.3 million is under construction. Completion is planned for 2026. The new park is expected to become one of the key tourist and recreational centers of the region.
New Parks in the Eastern Part of the Island
In Sotira (Free Famagusta Area), a sports and recreation complex worth €900,000 has already opened, offering facilities for sports and relaxation. In Achiritou, a linear park of 5,200 m² with a budget of €1 million is being created, connecting natural trails with public activity zones. Completion is expected by March 2026.
Cyprus — An Island for a Sustainable Future
All these projects not only beautify cities but also foster a new ecological mindset. Green zones promote sustainable development, improve microclimates, and increase property values in surrounding areas. Cyprus is steadily moving toward creating a modern, eco-friendly, and convenient urban environment where nature and people coexist in harmony. Every new park is a step toward this goal.
