The Cyprus Revenue Authority has extended the deadline for filing tax returns up to and including 14 January.
The main reason for this decision was a major technical failure on the government's servers, which caused the government's websites to be unavailable for some time.
The agency noted that there was no evidence of a cyber attack. The incident is being investigated. At the same time, all servers and websites of the Cyprus Revenue Authority are functioning normally.
As a result, Cypriots have more time to declare their income.
As a reminder, all persons whose income (before tax) exceeds the amount of 19.5 thousand euros are obliged to do so. In addition, the declaration must be completed by individuals whose income exceeds 19.5 thousand euros, received from the rental of real estate, royalties, pensions, dividends, interest and securities. It should be noted that if a tax resident of Cyprus whose income exceeds 19.5 thousand euros per year does not submit a tax return on time, he will be fined 100 euros plus 5% of the amount of tax due for the year.
It is only possible to declare income electronically. To do this, you must first register at the tax office in your place of residence (personal attendance is required), where the official responsible will issue a Tax Identification Code (TIC) consisting of eight digits and a Latin letter (e.g. 9999999999X).
The applicant will be given a unique 17-digit registration number. You will then need to create an account on the TaxisNet portal and complete the declaration. Instructions on how to register on the TaxisNet portal in English (in PDF format).
