As part of the country's digitalization of public services, on Tuesday, May 27, Cyprus Government Spokesperson Constantinos Letymbiotis announced the expansion of the Gov.cy portal's functionality.
Six new services are now available online to Cypriot citizens:
- Issuance of ID cards and passports for children and adults, including in cases of loss or damage
- Expedited passport issuance
- Issuance of refugee identity certificates
- Application for displaced person status
- Search for relatives in the population registry
These processes are now fully digitalized — with the exception of submitting biometric data for ID cards and passports, which still requires a single in-person visit to a service center.
The new features are also integrated into the Digital Citizen app, an AI-based digital assistant. In total, the portal now offers 19 new thematic sections, providing 24/7 access to information and services through text or voice interaction.
Letymbiotis emphasized that Cyprus is gradually digitalizing civil services.
The first phase, launched in summer 2024, included issuing duplicates of birth and death certificates, IDs and passports, proof-of-origin documents, and consular records.
“Thanks to the gradual digitalization of civil registry services, it will be much easier and more convenient for Cypriots — both on the island and abroad — to access services directly, without unnecessary hassle or delays,” Letymbiotis noted.
The project is managed by the Digital Services Factory under the Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy.
Its goal is to eliminate excessive bureaucracy and make government services accessible, simple, and user-friendly.
It’s also important to note that access to the Gov.cy portal is open from both within Cyprus and abroad.
