Cyprus Extends Deadline for Filing Tax Returns

On Tuesday 28 September, the Tax Department of the Republic of Cyprus announced that they have decided to postpone the deadline for filing 2019 tax returns.

Declarations will be accepted until 23:59 Tuesday, November 30, 2021, according to the department.

As you may know, declarations for 2019 must be filled out by those persons whose income (before taxes) exceeds 19,500 euros, as well as individual entrepreneurs who work without audit reporting. In addition, the declaration is filled out by individuals with an income of more than 19,500 euros received from the rental of real estate, in the form of royalties, pensions, dividends, interest and securities.

Tax returns can only be submitted electronically. To do this, you first need to register with the tax department at the place of residence (personal presence is required), where the responsible officer will issue a tax identification number (Tax Identification Code - TIC) of eight digits and one Latin letter (for example, 99999999X).

The applicant will receive a Unique Registration Number of 17 digits. Then you need to create an account on the TaxisNet portal and fill out a declaration. Instructions on how to register on the TaxisNet portal in English (in PDF format).

Individuals whose income exceeds 19,500 euros per year (before taxes) are required to pay taxes to the state treasury. This can be done using the JCC system or on the portal of the tax department. In the JCC system, the option is available provided that the taxpayer does it on time. If they are late, they have to pay using the Tax Portal.

It should be noted that if a tax resident of the Republic of Cyprus, whose income exceeds 19,500 euros per year, does not file a tax return on time, he will be charged a fine of 100 euros plus 5% of the amount of taxes that he must pay for the year.

If you have any questions regarding filling out a tax return or paying taxes, you can contact the help desk employee at 22308000 on a special phone and get clarifications.

Сейчас идет подача деклараций не за 2019-й, а за 2020-й.
