Hermes Airports, which manages key strategic facilities in Cyprus, has drawn up plans for their expansion as part of its concession agreement with the local government.
The company's main objective is to upgrade the existing infrastructure and ensure that it meets the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
In this context, Hermes Airports recently launched a public debate on the forthcoming expansion of Larnaca and Paphos airports. Anyone can take part in the discussion until 15 January 2025.
According to the management company, it intends to invest around €95 million in the modernisation of Larnaca airport and around €75 million in the modernisation of Paphos airport. Hermes Airports has submitted an application to the Cyprus Environment Ministry.
The Environmental Impact Assessment study for the project was carried out by La Solas Services Ltd in collaboration with Egis Structures et Environment and Bouygues Batiment International. Bouygues Batiment International and Egis Aviation also assisted in the preparation of the necessary documents.
It is estimated that the expansion works will take 24 months to complete at Larnaca Airport and 18 months at Paphos Airport. As a result, their capacity will increase by 12 million and 5 million passengers per year respectively.
According to the plan, Larnaca airport will extend the departure terminal to the east, adding new areas for passport control and security screening. The existing passport and security control area will be converted into retail space. Additional seating will be provided for waiting passengers. The gate area will be extended to the west with an additional wing to accommodate new gates. This wing can be connected to the second terminal planned for the future.
As for Paphos Airport, an additional section of taxiway will be created in the southern part of the airport to meet all lighting and safety requirements, and the terminal will be expanded.
