On Monday, 26 May, the Cyprus Energy Agency (EAC) announced a new environmental initiative.
The agency has started to distribute €20 coupons, which can be used to purchase energy-efficient LED bulbs.
The first participants in the programme will be customers connected to the 08 social tariff. This category includes vulnerable members of the community. In the coming weeks, the programme will be made available to all other domestic consumers on the island.
The vouchers can be exchanged for LED bulbs at EAC partner stores until 30 June 2025: DIMCO, ELMASCO and PGS Lighting Electrical. These chains have outlets in all Cypriot cities, making participation in the programme as convenient as possible.
The scheme covers a wide range of lamps with different base types: E27, B22, E14, GU9 and GU10, as well as the T5 and T8 linear models.
They all have excellent technical specifications: they consume up to 70% less electricity than conventional lamps and have a lifespan that is ten times longer.
The EAC emphasised that this initiative will help reduce household energy costs and contribute to the fight against climate change. Installing LED lamps significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions, making homes more economical and environmentally friendly.
The EAC programme forms part of a sustainable development strategy, encouraging more sensible consumption of resources through collaboration between public and private organisations in Cyprus. Participation in the programme contributes not only to one's own budget, but also to the common cause of environmental protection.
