Paphos to Upgrade Cycle Lane on Aphrodite Avenue

Geroskipou Municipality in Paphos has announced a major upgrade of the cycle lane along Aphrodite Avenue. The project is valued at €108,452. Construction is scheduled to begin on 1 September 2026 and is expected to take two months to complete.

The contract for the project was signed on 28 July by Geroskipou Mayor Nikos Palios and Rogiros Anastasi, a representative of ANC Waterproofing Industries Ltd. During the reconstruction period, temporary traffic restrictions and changes to pedestrian and cyclist routes may be introduced.

What Will Change After the Reconstruction

The project forms part of a broader programme to modernise public infrastructure in Geroskipou's tourist area, which has experienced significant development in recent years thanks to growing visitor numbers and investment in urban improvements. The main objectives of the reconstruction are:

  1. improving cyclist safety;
  2. renewing the cycle lane surface;
  3. enhancing convenience for residents and visitors;
  4. extending the lifespan of the cycling infrastructure.

Once completed, the route will provide a more comfortable experience for daily commuting and leisure rides along the coastline.

Geroskipou Continues to Expand Its Cycling Infrastructure

Located next to Paphos, Geroskipou continues to invest in creating a modern urban environment. Cycle lanes are becoming an increasingly important part of the transport network, promoting environmentally friendly mobility and helping to reduce pressure on road traffic.

The expansion of cycling infrastructure is in line with Cyprus' broader strategy to promote sustainable mobility. Municipalities across the island are gradually extending their cycling networks, linking residential neighbourhoods, tourist attractions, waterfronts and public spaces.

Why the Project Matters for Residents and Tourists

Aphrodite Avenue runs through one of Geroskipou's most popular tourist areas, home to hotels, restaurants, beaches and promenades. The road is used every day by local residents as well as thousands of visitors. The upgraded cycle lane will make travel safer, increase the area's appeal for cycling enthusiasts and represent another step in the modernisation of infrastructure across the Paphos region.

In recent years, local authorities have placed particular emphasis on developing public spaces, improving the road network and creating a more comfortable environment for both residents and tourists, further enhancing the quality of urban life and the attractiveness of Cyprus' western coastline.
