On Friday, March 8, the Mayor of Nicosia, Constantinos Yiorkadjis, and the director of C. Roushas Trading & Development Ltd director Costas Roushas signed the long-awaited contract for the construction of student dormitories on Aristidou Street.
The project will equip 20 rooms of 28 m2 each. All rooms will meet the requirements of accessibility for people with disabilities. Each room will be equipped with electrical appliances, oven, refrigerator, washing machine, air conditioning, furniture and closets.
The work is expected to last 14 months. The cost of the project is estimated at €1,946,059 plus VAT. All costs will be covered by the recovery and sustainability program.

The Mayor of Nicosia said that this initiative is part of the realization of a number of important projects of the municipality within the city walls, which have shaped the environment and created conditions for further development and attraction of entrepreneurs and residents and especially young people.
At the same time, the mayor's office does not intend to stop there. There are plans to open dormitories in the city center for 600 students. According to the mayor of Nicosia, this could give an impetus to the development of the neighborhood. As such a concentration of students in the old city, will attract the attention of entrepreneurs and will be an incentive to open new stores and cafes.
Recall that earlier this week the Cypriot government announced that it will invest more than 40 million euros in the reconstruction of the old town of Nicosia within the boundaries of the Venetian walls.
Officials have developed several schemes that will help bring business activity back to the abandoned center. In particular, the government will provide subsidies to entrepreneurs who operate in the Old Town area, as well as financial support for couples to buy homes within the Venetian Walls.
