A major project has begun in Larnaca.
On Friday, March 1, the press service of the Sovereign Base Area (SBA) announced that the construction of housing for British military personnel and their families has begun at the Dhekelia base.
The agency noted that the relevant contract was signed back in November 2023 between Lagan Iacovou, the Defense Infrastructure Organization (DIO) and the UK Strategic Command.
According to the release, the project includes 138 new three and four-bedroom residential homes.
All the buildings will be constructed to meet the required level of seismic protection, to meet a high-energy performance class. Each residence will be equipped with solar panels, heat pumps and charging stations for electric vehicles.
The construction of 138 new homes represents a significant step towards the Apollo program to reduce the risk of seismic accidents in Cyprus. We are very pleased to have started work on a new complex for British military personnel and their families in Cyprus. This project will significantly modernize British bases on the island and their infrastructure," said Project Director Tracey Fuoco on behalf of the UK Strategic Command.
It should be noted that the budget of the project is more than 40 million euros. It is intended to deliver a large residential complex no later than 2027.
