The Paphos Municipality is about to carry out an important project that has been on paper for a long time.
It is the construction of a new motorway linking the area of the Royal Tombs with Coral Bay.
On Wednesday 19 February, Akamas Mayor Marinos Lambrou announced that the project will start in the second half of 2026. He said that upgrading the road to a 4-lane motorway would be an important step in the development of the coastal areas, where about % of the hotels in the entire prefecture are located. Incidentally, the current road does not meet safety standards, in particular there is a lack of lighting and surfacing in some sections.
The plan is to build a modern motorway from the Royal Tombs to Coral Bay. Officials are meeting to coordinate efforts between government agencies and project developers.
This eight-kilometre project, with a four-lane road, bicycle lanes and green lanes, modern lighting, underground telecommunications and more, will be a significant contribution to the modernisation of the area," concludes Lambrou.
