In a few months' time, the longest promenade in Cyprus will appear in the Peyia district of Paphos.
According to the local municipality, the project is in its active phase and work is progressing according to schedule.
Peyia mayor Marinos Lambrou said that the cost of the new promenade is estimated at €2.5 million. When all the works are completed, Paphos residents and visitors will have access to a total length of 14 kilometres of promenade.
The project will be carried out in 4 phases:
- The first phase will see the modernisation of the section from the Kissonerga - Peyia road to the coast of the eastern part of Coral Bay. Workers will also construct a 5.1 kilometre stretch of track.
- The second phase will see the upgrading of the section from the western part of Coral Bay to the Keratidi area and ending in the Sklinikari area (Agios Georgios State Forest). The total length of this section is approximately 1.6 kilometres.
- The third phase involves the development of the section from the area of Sklinikari (Agios Georgios State Forest) to the Sea Caves. The total length of this section is approximately 3.6 kilometres.
- Finally, the fourth phase involves the upgrading of the section from the Sea Caves to the port of Agios Georgios, where the Peyia Fishing Shelter is located. The total length of this section is approximately 3.2 kilometres.
The plan also includes the construction of a large linear park along the promenade, a cycle path, numerous recreational areas, an amphitheatre, an open-air gym, a basketball and volleyball court, a mini football pitch, a kiosk and children's playground, public toilets and showers.
In addition, modern lighting will be installed throughout the new promenade and a beautiful pedestrian bridge will be built between the banks of the Xeros river, connecting the promenade to the future Paphos harbour.
The project is 2/3 funded by the Ministry of Interior's Town Planning and Housing Department and 1/3 by Peyia Municipality Fund.
