Larnaca Municipality has summarized the results of the tender for the construction of a new modern home for the elderly.
The winner of the tender was AKI Constructions Ltd.
On Wednesday, January 17, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras signed the relevant agreement with the contractor. The cost of the project is estimated at €3.5 million. The work will start in the coming weeks. It is planned to bring the facility into operation in the second half of 2025.
According to the release, the project involves the construction of a fully autonomous 2-storey building.
The first level will be equipped with public premises: reception, doctor's office, sanitary areas, dining room, recreation and entertainment area, kitchen, and offices. On the second floor, there will be 22 double rooms and 4 single rooms, which will be able to accommodate a total of 48 pensioners. All rooms will have underfloor heating and air conditioning. Near the building, there will be a lake recreation area and a landscaped garden.
It should be noted that the nursing home in Larnaca will be built on the site of an existing building, which is to be demolished. The new facility will be built with accessibility for low-mobility groups. It is expected that part of the operating costs will initially be covered by the European Community Fund. At the same time, the cost of renting rooms for the elderly will be minimal.
The representative of Andreas Nicolaou Architects + Designers, who designed the Larnaca retirement home, said that this project will be one of the most interesting and modern ever built in Cyprus. He said that the building includes a security system at the entrance, CCTV cameras, a fire-fighting system as well as specialized facilities for people with hearing impairments.
Andreas Vyras stressed that the new home for elderly people in Larnaca is included in the priority projects of the city's Strategic Integrated Spatial Development and will be co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF+) under the THALEIA 2021-2027 program.
