Photovoltaic parks are being actively built in Cyprus.
Over the last week, the Department of Environment has approved two new projects. The first one will be located to the northwest of the village of Fyti, Paphos, the second one - near the village of Monagroulli, Limassol.
The Monagroulli photovoltaic Park, which will convert solar energy into electricity using special panels, will occupy an area of 61,962 m2, which is 80% of the total area of the building site.
The purpose of the development is the construction and operation of an autonomous power unit that generates electricity from a photovoltaic system. The project will consist of 15,384 panels with a total capacity of 7.7 MW.
It is expected that the new photovoltaic system will work as an independent power supply. It will be powered exclusively from the sun, without carrying out any other operations that could become a source of pollution.
As indicated in the relevant Environmental Impact Assessment Study (MEEP), the ultimate goal of the project is to help meet the energy needs of the region and reduce the country's dependence on imported and non-renewable energy sources.
