An important project for the city has begun in Paphos.
On Monday, December 8, the local town hall announced the start of work on the new Historical Documentation Center.
As part of the renovation work, the historic site was fenced off and the old roof was removed. Employees of the company N. Gavriel and Sons Ltd, which won the tender, are reinforcing the walls of the building and removing construction debris.
According to the plan, the 950 m2 facility, which previously housed the Paphos Police Headquarters, will be completely restored and an extension will be made to it.
The area around the new center will be landscaped and greened. In the design of the project, an attempt has been made to link the urban environment with the history of Paphos. This will be done through a pedestrian route that will start at the Armenian Genocide Park and end at the town square to the north of the center building, where resting places and sanitary facilities will be equipped.
From there, visitors will be able to access the museum area, through a modern building, where they will learn about the history of Paphos from 332 BC to the present day. The tour will take place both through the exhibits already collected and in the format of a digital tour.
The cost of the project is estimated at 10 million euros. The facility is to be completed within 14 months.
