Nicosia's Tseriou Avenue is in for a makeover.
On Wednesday, April 24, the capital's municipality announced the winner of the tender for the improvement of one of the most important arteries of the city.
The winner was Cyfield Construction Ltd. According to the mayor's office, the developer will receive 9.8 million euros (plus VAT) for the realization of the large-scale project. The duration of the overall works will be about 2 years. The project, following the decision of the Council of Ministers, will be carried out within the framework of urban development. At the same time, 80% of the costs will be covered by the state, while another 20% will be allocated by the Municipality of Strovolos.
The representative of the Municipality said that in cooperation with the Minister of Transport, Communications and Public Works, Alexis Vafeadis, and the police, appropriate preparations have been made to eliminate any traffic problems during the implementation of the project, which was designed by the world-renowned architectural firm Andreas Markides Associates.
According to the plan, the contractor will have to repair a 2.2 km stretch of road. And also to equip both sides of the roadway with sidewalks 2-3 m wide, to install a modern system of rainwater drainage to combat frequent flooding, to update all utilities.
In addition, the project will create 275 new parking spaces, 18 new crosswalks, 14 bus stops and plant 530 trees and shrubs to reduce heat and CO2 emissions. The implementation of the Ceriu Street improvement project is expected to significantly improve traffic safety in the area.
