The authorities of Polis Chrysochous have officially announced the search for investors to modernise and operate a campsite in one of the most picturesque corners of Cyprus.
According to mayor Iotis Papachristofis, the municipality will accept applications until July 4.
Total investment in the project is estimated at €4.5 million. Of this €2.2 million will be invested in the reconstruction of the campsite, while €2.3 million will be spent on operating costs. Specifically, the project includes:
- The construction of modern buildings, including a beach restaurant and three new shower blocks to replace the old buildings.
- The creation of a children's playground and recreation area.
- Asphalting the roads and creating clearly marked areas for caravanners.
- Improve infrastructure for caravans - there will be 20 purpose-built pitches with access to electricity and water.
- Provide a secluded camping area - vehicles will only be allowed in designated areas.
A 25 year lease will be signed with the contractor. The annual rent will be €60,000 with a % increase every two years. The initial contract will run until 2040, with an option to extend until 2055. According to the mayor, the authorities are keen to find a reliable investor as soon as possible so that the renovated campsite can welcome its first guests next year.
Papachristofis stressed that the Polis campsite plays a key role in the region's tourism infrastructure. Despite the popularity of the destination, the resort lacks large hotel complexes, which makes this project particularly important.
It is a unique holiday destination combining natural beauty, eucalyptus groves and an improved beach with new breakwaters. We expect the renovated campsite to become an important part of the region's tourism ecosystem," said the mayor.
Recall that the campsite was originally built by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation and managed by a private company. In 2011 it came under the control of the municipality, but a legal dispute arose with the previous manager, who considered himself the legal tenant due to previous investments. The dispute lasted six years and it was not until 2023 that the court finally handed the site over to the municipality.
The renovated campsite at Polis Chrysochous is expected to become one of the most modern and attractive tourist facilities on the west coast of Cyprus.
