Bank of Cyprus has once again been recognised at the prestigious EMEA Finance Achievement Awards 2025. For the third consecutive year, the bank has received international recognition, reaffirming its strong position in global financial markets and the growing confidence of institutional investors.
This year's awards recognised the successful issuance of €300 million in Tier 2 subordinated bonds, completed in September 2025. The transaction became one of the most significant capital market deals for Cyprus' banking sector in recent years and demonstrated strong demand from the international investment community.
Bond Issue Attracted Record Investor Demand
The bond offering significantly exceeded initial expectations. More than 100 institutional investors participated in the transaction, while total demand surpassed €3 billion—more than ten times the size of the €300 million issue.
Such a result reflects the high level of confidence international markets have in Cyprus' banking sector. Analysts note that this degree of oversubscription is typically achieved only by financial institutions with strong fundamentals, a transparent business strategy, and solid creditworthiness.
Bank of Cyprus stated that this latest recognition from EMEA Finance confirms the bank's continued success in the capital markets and reflects its strong financial position. According to the bank, the awards are the result of a consistent long-term strategy focused on strengthening its capital base and enhancing its attractiveness to investors. Management also noted that the confidence of institutional investors enables the bank not only to raise funding successfully but also to support Cyprus' economy through business lending and new investment projects.

What Tier 2 Bonds Mean for Banks
Tier 2 bonds are a form of supplementary regulatory capital used by banks to strengthen their financial resilience in line with international banking regulations. Such issuances help financial institutions maintain adequate capital levels, diversify their funding sources, and improve their ability to withstand economic risks.
Receiving two international awards for this bond issuance confirms that Cyprus' financial sector continues to strengthen its reputation in the global capital markets. For the island's economy, this represents a positive signal, as strong interest from foreign investors helps attract capital and further enhances Cyprus' overall investment appeal.
