A unique environmental project is being launched in Ayia Napa with the aim of transforming the city into a green oasis.
Known as 'green walls', vertical gardens will appear in various areas of the Cypriot resort, adorning building facades, fences, vacant lots and public transport stops.
The project's main objective is to create additional natural spaces within the urban landscape. The municipality has officially announced that the project will be both an aesthetic upgrade and part of a sustainable development strategy. It will help to reduce dust and heat in the city, improve the microclimate and increase biodiversity, not to mention delighting the eyes of local residents and visitors alike.
The first 'green wall' is set to be installed in the coming weeks. According to Deputy Mayor Antonis Christou, it is not just decorative, but the first step towards making Ayia Napa a model environmentally friendly resort.
However, the project is not limited to the municipality's efforts.
Residents and business owners are invited to contribute to this green transformation by planting plants near their homes and greening their balconies, façades, and courtyards. Participants will be offered advice and assistance in choosing sustainable, climate-appropriate plants.
This initiative could set a precedent by providing a clear example of how even a small resort town can implement progressive urban solutions and care for the environment, not only for the sake of tourists, but also for the future of its residents.
Ayia Napa is investing in a green future and inviting everyone to join them on this journey.
