The Ayia Napa municipality has signed two new contracts totaling €140,000 as part of a large-scale program to upgrade beach infrastructure ahead of the summer season.
The goal is to make the experience at popular resorts more comfortable, clean, and modern for both tourists and locals.
According to an official statement, the city will purchase:
- 450 new cushions for sun loungers — totaling €39,389 including VAT;
- 88 sun loungers and 1,500 umbrellas with built-in ashtrays — totaling €105,612.50.
Most of the funding comes from a grant program by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, which supports projects to improve beaches across Cyprus. The municipality noted that such support is especially important during the peak tourist season when the quality and convenience of beaches play a key role in attracting visitors.
The municipality also emphasized the environmental aspect of the project.
The new umbrellas will be equipped with ashtrays — this will help reduce beach pollution from cigarette butts and make the sand cleaner and more pleasant for visitors.
“Our goal is to offer modern, comfortable, and environmentally responsible equipment that meets the high standards of resort services,” stated the Ayia Napa municipality.
This initiative is part of a long-term strategy for developing sustainable tourism, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall quality of service on the city’s beaches. The new equipment is expected to be installed within the coming weeks.
