Eurostat has carried out a new study analysing the level of salaries in the 27 EU countries on 1 January 2025.
It turns out that the people who earn the most are the inhabitants of Luxembourg, which topped the list.
According to the agency, the average monthly salary in this country is 2,638 euros (before tax). At the bottom of the list was Bulgaria, whose residents receive an average of 551 euros per month (before tax).
The agency noted that as of 1 January 2025, the minimum wage system (MROT) is in force in 22 of the 27 EU states. The exceptions are: Denmark, Italy, Austria, Finland, Italy, Austria and Sweden, where the minimum wage is not set by law.
Cyprus is 12th in the overall ranking. The minimum wage for Cypriots is estimated at one thousand euros. However, when recalculated to take account of purchasing power parity, the country is already in 15th place.
The distribution of EU countries by minimum wage level is as follows:
- More than 1.5 thousand euros are earned by residents of Luxembourg, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France.
- Between 1 and 1.5 thousand euros are paid in Spain, Slovenia, Poland, Lithuania, Portugal and Cyprus.
- Less than EUR 1 000 is paid in Croatia, Greece, Malta, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Latvia, Hungary and Bulgaria.
If, on the other hand, we take the price difference into account, the differences between countries are reduced and the list looks different:
- Over 1.5 thousand euros: Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, France, Poland.
- Between 1 and 1.5 thousand euros: Spain, Slovenia, Romania, Croatia, Lithuania, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Hungary.
- Less than 1 thousand euros: Slovakia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Bulgaria, Latvia.
Interestingly, the minimum wage is lower in the southern part of Cyprus than in the northern part, where it is 1 168 euro (converted).
