The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous has completed projects worth a total of €592,838.60 aimed at improving local communities, enhancing public spaces, and developing the region's tourism infrastructure.
The projects were financed through a government program designed to support the revitalization of Cyprus's rural, mountainous, and border areas by creating authentic tourism experiences. Significant financial support was provided by the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism. The total approved subsidy amounted to €548,332.26, while the initial value of the proposed projects reached €592,838.60.
Which Districts Received Funding
The program covered 12 municipal districts within the Polis Chrysochous area: Agia Marina Chrysochous, Gialia, Nea Dimmata, Neo Chorio, Droushia, Theletra, Kritou Tera, Chrysochous, Argaka, Pelathousa, Pomos, and Polis Chrysochous. Neo Chorio received the largest allocation, totaling €65,000. It was followed by Pomos with €64,871.50 and Argaka with €62,485.07. The projects are intended to improve the quality of life for local residents while simultaneously increasing the region's appeal to visitors.
The work included the renovation and enhancement of public spaces, landscaping projects, and tree planting. Pedestrian routes were also upgraded, and new viewing platforms were created. The program included:
- improvements to tourist trails and recreational areas;
- the creation and renovation of viewing platforms;
- the installation of navigation signs;
- new street furniture and lighting;
- the renovation of children's playgrounds;
- the development of digital infrastructure;
- landscaping projects and the improvement of public areas.
Particular attention was given to preserving the natural and cultural heritage of these communities. Through these initiatives, the municipality hopes to expand tourism in the Paphos region beyond traditional beach destinations by promoting nature-based, cultural, and rural tourism routes.
Investing in Tourism and the Development of Polis Chrysochous
The projects are expected to make the region's communities more modern, attractive, and comfortable while preserving their local character. For Polis Chrysochous, the initiative also represents an opportunity to strengthen the tourism identity of northwestern Cyprus. The modernization of public spaces, routes, and infrastructure creates additional opportunities for both domestic and international tourism.
The municipality noted that cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism makes it possible to implement targeted investments across multiple communities simultaneously and gradually improve the quality of the region's tourism infrastructure.
