On Monday 12 August, the Cypriot Interior Ministry announced that the 'Ktizo' programme will pay €111,400 per month in rent to its beneficiaries.
In addition, the ministry has decided to provide additional grants to refugees who have expressed a desire to participate in the government scheme but are unable to make the necessary contributions to the construction of new homes. The total amount of the grant is expected to be €1 million. A total of 95 people will be able to benefit. The money will be distributed according to the socio-economic status of the applicants. The grants will not be paid in cash, but will be transferred to a special bank account.
Recall that the 'Ktizo' programme divides beneficiaries into three categories:
- Category 1 - includes first generation refugees as well as second, third and fourth generation refugees who have inherited emergency property if they have a title deed to the house.
- Category 2 - includes those refugees who bought properties in housing estates with money allocated to them by the state.
- Category 3 - includes residents who bought a flat from a refugee.
In the case of demolition and construction of a new building in place of an emergency shelter, the apartments have fixed prices: 40,000 euros for a one-room apartment, 60,000 euros for a two-room apartment, 75,000 euros for a three-room apartment. This amount is only partially covered by the state subsidy. Amount of the state subsidy for the demolition of a building and the purchase of an apartment in a new building:
- Category 1 - 30 thousand euros for a one-room flat, 40 thousand euros for a two-room flat, 50 thousand euros for a three-room flat;
- Category 2 - 20 thousand euros for one-bedroom flats, 30 thousand euros for two-bedroom flats, 40 thousand euros for three-bedroom flats;
- Category 3 - 0.
The remaining amount must be paid by the beneficiaries from their own resources.
