Unique Aircraft Engine Testing Center to Be Built in Cyprus

United Aerospace Maintenance Company (UAMCO) has received approval to construct a specialized aircraft engine testing complex. The project, already being described as a breakthrough for Cyprus’s aviation infrastructure, will be developed in the Aradippou industrial area in Larnaca.

Advanced Technology from Safran and a Unique Design

The new testing center will be equipped with systems supplied by Safran, one of the world’s leading aerospace manufacturers. The facility’s key feature is that it will become the first aircraft engine testing complex in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia to use an automated Spider maneuvering system instead of traditional overhead cranes. This engineering solution improves positioning accuracy and operational safety. According to UAMCO, the center will have the capacity to test, evaluate, and certify approximately 250 aircraft engines per year following maintenance and repair.

Expansion of Cyprus’s Existing MRO Facility

The Aradippou project is part of UAMCO’s broader strategy to expand its existing aircraft engine maintenance and repair facility in Cyprus. The new testing center will allow the company to carry out the full maintenance cycle on site, eliminating the need to send engines to third-party laboratories abroad. This will significantly reduce aircraft downtime and strengthen Cyprus’s position as a regional aviation hub.

Who Will Deliver the Project

Architectural and engineering design has been entrusted to DMA Architects-Engineers, a Larnaca-based company with more than 40 years of experience. Construction works will be carried out by GECO Constructions, founded in 2005 by Giorgos and Constantinos Savva. The selection of contractors with long-standing reputations is expected to ensure high construction quality and compliance with international safety standards, which are critical for aviation infrastructure projects. Major construction works are expected to begin as soon as all preparatory procedures are completed.
