The project is in its final stages. The Mayor of Paralimni Deryneia, Yiorgos Nikolettos, his deputy and other members of the Municipal Council recently visited the site.
During the visit, Mr Nikolettos spoke to the contractor, who stated that all work should be completed by May 2025.
The mayor also spoke to producers and to citizens shopping at the market, which attracts a large number of visitors and is an important buying and selling point for horticultural and processed products.
It should be noted that the project concerns the creation of a suitable infrastructure for the needs of the market and includes: the creation of covered areas for the sale of various products and space, the creation of parking spaces, including for people with disabilities and large vehicles (buses, trucks), the opening of a café and public toilets, the laying of new pavements, the landscaping of the area with various trees and shrubs, as well as the creation of a playground.
The upgrading of the street market is expected to bring significant benefits to Deryneia and the region as a whole. The project is part of the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. It is co-financed by the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Agency (CAP) and the European Funds Department of the Ministry of the Interior.
