The Cyprus Department of Environmental Protection has issued a permit to Protaras Municipality for the realization of the final fourth phase of the construction of a promenade in the coastal resort town.
According to the release, the works will cover a 9km long stretch from the fishing shelter of Agios Nikolaos, which is located next to the port and naval base of Paralimni, to the administrative boundaries of the municipality of Derynenia.
The fourth phase of the project includes:
- equipping pedestrian and bicycle paths;
- creation of rest areas with shelters and benches;
- replacement of city lighting;
- installation of ramps and stairs where necessary;
- planting of trees with the selection of appropriate flora species;
- installation of pumping stations and sanitation facilities.

The project is expected to take about 24 months to complete, provided there are no delays caused by internal or external factors.
The cost of the project is estimated at €20 million. At the same time, more than 60% of the costs will be covered by public funds.
According to the Mayor of Paralimni Theodoros Pirillis, the tender will be announced around the middle of 2024, in the fall will summarize the results of the competition, and in December will begin the implementation of the large-scale idea.
After the completion of the construction of the pedestrian path locals and tourists will be able to travel from Kapparis to Protaras on a bicycle, skateboard or electric scooter, without needing a car, - said the mayor.
Recall that the promenade is the center of life of any seaside resort. The extension of the Promenade of Protaras will undoubtedly add even more attractiveness to this beautiful place and will give a new impetus to the development of the resort.
