AEL Football Club has received approval to proceed with a major sports development project in the Kolossi area. Cyprus’s Department of Environment has authorized the construction of a new sports center that is expected to become one of the most modern training facilities on the island.
The project includes the creation of a comprehensive sports complex featuring football pitches, a training center, residential accommodation for athletes, and recovery facilities. The new development will be built on state-owned land near the Alpha Mega Stadium and the training facilities of Apollon FC in Limassol.
A New Stage in AEL’s Development
The construction of a modern dedicated training base is considered an important step in the club’s long-term development. Today, many of Europe’s leading football clubs invest in multifunctional training centers where players can not only train but also recover, stay during training camps, and access medical services.
AEL’s project includes the construction of two auxiliary football pitches with stands capable of accommodating a total of 306 spectators. The complex will also feature parking facilities for 66 vehicles, including designated spaces for people with disabilities.
The centerpiece of the development will be a three-story training center designed to support the year-round preparation of professional athletes.
The ground floor will include a gym, changing rooms, showers, massage rooms, a sauna, cryotherapy facilities, and a recovery pool for use after training sessions and matches. A restaurant, kitchen, administrative offices, and a reception area will also be located on this level.
The second floor will be dedicated to offices, meeting rooms, staff facilities, and modern multimedia spaces. The plans include a podcast recording studio as well as a presentation and video-analysis room, reflecting current trends in professional football development.
The top floor will house a hotel-style accommodation block for players and coaching staff. This will allow the team to conduct full training camps directly within the complex.
Convenient Location Near Alpha Mega Stadium
The future sports center will be located in the Municipality of Kourion, in the Kolossi area, close to the Limassol–Paphos motorway. The total land area exceeds 637,000 m², although the complex itself will occupy approximately 17,000 m² in the southwestern section of the site.
One of the project's key advantages is its proximity to Alpha Mega Stadium, which has served as the home ground of AEL, Apollon, and Aris since 2022. This location will help create Cyprus’s largest sports cluster in the Kolossi area, combining a modern stadium, training grounds, and professional sports infrastructure.
The development of sports infrastructure remains a priority for Cypriot football. In recent years, several major projects involving the construction and modernization of stadiums and training facilities have been completed across the island. Experts note that the new AEL center will improve player development, provide better conditions for youth teams, and reduce the club’s dependence on rented facilities. Once completed, AEL will have its own multifunctional, European-standard sports complex that will serve as a key part of the club’s infrastructure for many years to come.
