The Limassol Water Supply Authority (SYL) has announced that a new reservoir will be available in the Agia Fila neighbourhood very soon.
The authority has recently signed an agreement for the construction of an 800m3 reservoir with a contracting company.
The project will see the installation of new pipelines, a reinforced concrete water tank, control wells with flow meters, switches and the necessary equipment for the reservoir to function properly. The surrounding area will also be landscaped.
Construction will begin in September 2024 and take approximately 20 months. The reservoir will be operational by April 2026. Once complete, the reservoir will provide water to the residents of Agia Fyla.
The project will cost 455 thousand euros. The Water Supply Authority of Limassol (SYL) will fund it. A new reservoir for water collection will improve the quality of services provided by the department.
It is important to remember that water shortages in Cyprus are already a reality. According to experts, in about 25 years, the island is likely to be among the regions with the highest possible water shortage. Most of it is used for agriculture. To solve this problem, Cypriots are building reservoirs. Today, Cyprus has more than 100 reservoirs, which hold a total of 330 million m3 of water.
