The large-scale project will help improve the environmental situation in the region.

In Larnaca, the implementation of an important environmental project continues — the construction of a new “Green Point,” designed for the collection and recycling of various types of waste. According to local authorities, the work is proceeding in accordance with the approved schedule, and the completion of the project is expected by summer. The total cost of construction is estimated at about €1 million.

The project is being implemented with the support of government structures and is partially financed by the Department of Water Development. Its main goal is to create modern infrastructure for separate waste collection, reuse of materials, and increasing the level of waste recycling in the region. The implementation of this initiative should help reduce the burden on landfills and improve the environmental situation in the Larnaca area.

The development of such facilities corresponds to the overall environmental strategy of Cyprus and the requirements of the European Union aimed at reducing the volume of waste disposal and increasing the share of recycling.

What has already been completed at the construction site

At the moment, the preparatory stages of work have been completed. They included clearing the territory of the future facility, leveling the site, and carrying out surface earthworks to achieve the necessary site levels. Specialists are working on the construction of the foundation for the canopy, which will become one of the main parts of the complex. At the same time, a retaining wall is being built behind the structure, and curbs and elements of road infrastructure are being created within the territory of the future center. Such engineering solutions are necessary for convenient and safe movement of vehicles that will deliver and sort various types of waste.

Next stages of project implementation

In the following stages of construction, the final layout of the entire complex territory is planned. Auxiliary buildings will also be constructed, including a security room and sanitary facilities for staff and visitors.

The project incliudes the creation of a special room for firefighting equipment, installation of external sewage and rainwater drainage systems, as well as the installation of a metal canopy and service buildings. In addition, fences and gates will be built, and electrical and mechanical works will be carried out. The final stage will include the construction of internal roads, installation of road signs, and landscaping of green areas around the facility.

Летом в Ларнаке откроется новый центр по переработке отходов

How the “Green Point” will change the environmental situation

After the facility is put into operation, a significant reduction in the volume of waste sent to landfills is expected. The center will allow residents of Larnaca and nearby areas to properly dispose of bulky waste, construction materials, household appliances, and other types of waste that are difficult to recycle through regular containers.

Such complexes play an important role in shaping the environmental culture of the population. They help reduce the number of illegal dumping sites, increase recycling levels, and promote a more responsible attitude toward the environment.

It is worth noting that Cyprus in recent years has been actively developing a system of separate waste collection and modernizing recycling infrastructure. The opening of the new “Green Point” in Larnaca will become another step toward sustainable development and environmental safety in the region.
