Residents and visitors to Paphos now have the opportunity to walk along the sea along another 2km long promenade.
On Thursday, March 1, Kissonerga Municipality announced that the construction of the new promenade in the village has been completed.
According to the Municipality, a playground, an outdoor gym, comfortable benches, and modern lighting have been installed along the entire stretch. In addition, the Lock Your Love observation deck has been added. It is a very interesting place. The fence for the platform from the seaside was made in the form of 12 semicircles. Each of them is dedicated to a certain month of the year. Walking along the sea Paphos residents and guests can not only enjoy the breathtaking view but also leave a lock on the fence as a symbol of their strong feelings. The length of the fence is about 70 meters. The authorities of Kissonergi expect that the lovers who have hung their castle on the observation deck will want to return to this place again.
As for the promenade, the whole path is well-lit in the evening. The path has a uniform design that blends seamlessly into the environment. In addition, the promenade connects all the waterfront hotels in the area. The new promenade of Kissonergi can be used for both walking and cycling. The waterfront promenade highlights the beautiful rocky coastline and bays of Kissonergi and is one of the most remarkable projects in the Paphos area.
It is worth noting that thanks to the initiative shown by residents, the municipality managed to significantly reduce the cost of the new promenade. In particular, instead of the announced 3 million euros spent only 200 thousand euros. By the way, many people responded to provide free services to the mayor's office in the course of the project.
Recall that recently Paphos also began construction of a promenade in the neighborhood of Peyia.
The project will be realized in 4 phases:
- The first phase provides for the modernization of the section from the Kissonerga - Peyia highway to the coastline of the eastern part of Coral Bay. By the way, the workers will equip a path of 5.1 kilometers long.
- The second phase involves the modernization of the section from the western part of Coral Bay to the Keratidi area and ends in the area of Sklinikari (Agios Georgios State Forest). The total length of this section is approximately 1.6 km.
- The third phase involves the upgrading of the section from the area of Sklinikari (Agios Georgios State Forest) to the Sea Caves. The total length of this section is about 3.6 km.
- Finally, the fourth phase involves the upgrading of the section from the Sea Caves to the harbor of Agios Georgios, where the Peyia Fishing Shelter is located. The total length of this section is about 3.2 km.
The plan also includes the construction of a grand linear park along the waterfront, a bicycle path, numerous recreational areas, an amphitheater, an open-air gym, basketball and volleyball courts, a mini soccer field, a kiosk and playground for children, public restrooms and showers.
In addition, modern lighting will be installed throughout the new promenade and a beautiful pedestrian bridge will be built between the banks of the Xeros River, connecting the promenade to the future harbor of Paphos.
