A new photovoltaic park will be built in Cyprus.
The Cyprus Department of Environment approved a project that will be implemented near the village of Simou, located 5 km northwest of Fyti, in the Paphos district.
According to the release, the power plant will operate using the latest photovoltaic energy technologies. Several hundred solar panels with a total capacity of 100 kW will be installed on the site allocated for the construction of the park. This will allow residents of nearby neighborhoods to reduce energy costs.
The proposed development will be located on a land plot of 2585 m2. Of these, the photovoltaic park will occupy 490 m2, and the energy that it will generate at the maximum total capacity will be about 6,000 MWh/year.
As indicated in the relevant Environmental Impact Assessment Study (MEEP), the ultimate goal of the project is to help meet the energy needs of the region and reduce the country's dependence on imported and non-renewable energy sources.
Based on the study of the environmental impact of the photovoltaic park, the estimated cost of the project is 80,000 euros.
