The Municipality of Larnaca has officially announced the opening of the multifunctional Chakkilero Park—a large-scale urban project already being described as a new landmark for the entire area. The €2.5 million investment is the largest infrastructure expenditure in recent years and forms part of a broader strategy to renew the city’s urban environment. The new park is designed as an open, accessible, and genuinely inclusive space, equally welcoming to families with children, seniors, athletes, and tourists.
The opening of Chakkilero coincides with the active development of eastern Larnaca, where in 2025 increased emphasis is being placed on creating green zones, cycling infrastructure, and public spaces capable of reducing pressure on the city center and improving environmental conditions.
A space for living, movement, and culture
The park is not just a place for walks, but a fully fledged urban venue for recreation, sport, and social interaction. It features modern areas for active leisure, convenient pedestrian routes, and cycling paths that connect residential neighborhoods with key points of the district. Landscaped green sections create cool shaded areas, making the park attractive even during the hot summer months.
Special attention has been paid to culture. An open-air amphitheater with 150 seats is ready to host concerts, festivals, and theatrical performances. The municipality plans to use it for regular city events, turning Chakkilero into one of Larnaca’s new cultural stages.

Comfort, safety, and sustainable development
The park’s infrastructure follows modern standards of sustainable construction. It includes next-generation anti-vandal lighting systems, fully adapted areas for people with disabilities, and underground engineering networks that ensure safety and long-term durability. Thanks to thoughtful landscape design and new plantings, the park is already noticeably improving the local microclimate and the overall visual character of eastern Larnaca.
European support and the future of the area
The project was implemented under the Thalia 2021–2027 Cohesion Programme, with co-financing from the European Union—highlighting its strategic importance for the development of Cyprus’s urban infrastructure. In the coming years, Chakkilero will become a key element of Larnaca’s network of public spaces and will be actively used for social, cultural, and family events.
Mayor Andreas Vyras emphasized that Larnaca is developing not only in its tourist center but across all residential districts. The new park already serves as clear evidence that investment in green areas and public spaces directly improves quality of life—making the city more modern, sustainable, and comfortable for residents and visitors alike.
