Cyprus to Launch the New myHealth@CY App This Autumn

The myHealth@CY mobile application will launch in Cyprus in November 2026, serving as a single digital healthcare companion for patients. During the initial phase, users will be able to search for doctors and healthcare facilities, access an emergency SOS feature and use European cross-border digital health services. At a later stage, the app will be fully integrated with the GESY healthcare system, allowing patients to manage almost all healthcare services directly from their smartphones. The project forms part of Cyprus' broader healthcare digitalisation strategy and the country's preparations for participation in the European Health Data Space.

What Will Be Available from November

The contract for the development of the application was signed in November 2025 between the National eHealth Authority of Cyprus, Cyta and the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO), which manages the GESY healthcare system. Following an international tender, the application is being developed and will be maintained by Gnomon Informatics in partnership with Cyta.

The first version was originally scheduled for release in summer 2026, but the launch has been postponed until autumn. During the first phase, users will be able to:

1. search for doctors, clinics, hospitals and other healthcare providers using various filters;
2. immediately see whether a healthcare professional participates in the GESY system;
3. subscribe to official health-related notifications on topics of interest;
4. receive recommendations, alerts and announcements from public healthcare authorities.

According to the developers, the application will become the single official source of healthcare information in Cyprus, helping users find the services they need more quickly.

SOS Button and European e-Prescriptions

One of the application's most useful features will be the Emergency Button—a digital SOS function. When activated, the app will automatically transmit the user's GPS location to emergency services, significantly reducing response times, particularly if the person is unable to communicate their location.

In addition, myHealth@CY will connect to the European cross-border eHealth system. Through the app, Cyprus residents will be able to:

1. view their Patient Summary;
2. access information on allergies, chronic conditions, previous surgeries and prescribed medications;
3. use electronic prescriptions outside Cyprus.

The system is already operational between Cyprus and 11 countries:

1. Greece
2. Latvia
3. Luxembourg
4. Croatia
5. Poland
6. Ireland
7. the Netherlands
8. Portugal
9. Estonia
10. the Czech Republic
11. Spain

A further five countries are currently being connected, making access to healthcare services across Europe even more convenient.

Full GESY Access Coming in the Second Phase

Once the second phase of development is completed, the application will become a fully featured mobile patient portal for the GESY healthcare system. Users will be able to:

1. view their electronic medical records;
2. access their treatment history;
3. view active referrals and electronic prescriptions;
4. track prior authorisations for medical services;
5. manage the medical records of their children and other dependants;
6. receive notifications before prescriptions expire;
7. apply to register with or change their personal doctor;
8. submit enquiries and complaints directly through the GESY system.

Another important feature will allow patients to control doctors' access to their medical information. Users will be able to grant or revoke permission to view their health records at any time, in line with the requirements of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Cyprus Prepares for European Digital Healthcare

The launch of myHealth@CY forms part of the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). EU Regulation 2025/327 entered into force on 26 March 2025, while its main provisions will begin to apply from 26 March 2027. According to the EU implementation timetable:

1. by 26 March 2029, all EU member states must support cross-border exchange of electronic prescriptions, Patient Summaries and pharmacy dispensing information;
2. by 26 March 2031, the system will expand to include laboratory results, medical imaging, diagnostic reports and hospital discharge summaries.

The launch of myHealth@CY therefore represents a major milestone in the modernisation of Cyprus' healthcare system. In the long term, the application will bring together most healthcare services within a single mobile platform, making access to medical care faster and providing more convenient access to health records both within Cyprus and while travelling across the European Union.
