New Multifunctional Park to Open in Larnaca

The largest park in terms of area and cost, located in the Tsiakkilero area of Larnaca, will officially open on Tuesday, April 21 at 17:30. The opening ceremony will be led by Minister of Interior Konstantinos Ioannou. The new park has already been handed over to the Municipality of Larnaca and represents a modern green space for recreation and activities for both residents and visitors. The project was implemented במסגרת the “THALIA 2021–2027” program with co-financing from the European Union.

What’s inside: amphitheater, playground, and dog park

According to the Municipality of Larnaca, the Tsiakkilero Multifunctional Park is the largest infrastructure investment in the area in recent years. The total project budget amounted to €2.5 million. The park is expected to significantly improve the quality of everyday life for residents of the district and the wider city. It features sports grounds, green areas, relaxation zones, a modern children’s playground, walking routes, pedestrian and cycling paths, as well as a dedicated dog park. The highlight is a small open-air amphitheater with 150 seats, designed to host cultural and artistic events, concerts, and theatrical performances.

A unified space for walking and sports

The aim of the project is to revitalize the urban environment and provide citizens with a place for walking, sports, and relaxation. The park’s various zones are connected by a unified network of sidewalks and cycling paths, creating a continuous route that encourages visitors to explore every corner of the park. In addition, the project includes modern anti-vandal lighting, safe and fully accessible infrastructure for people with disabilities, and underground utility systems. All of this ensures functionality, safety, and long-term sustainability.

Progress on Pattichio Park

Unlike the Tsiakkilero park, the completion of Pattichio Park has been delayed by several months. This project has faced multiple challenges. The initial construction sparked strong opposition from some residents, particularly locals. As a result, the plans were revised, and some originally proposed features were scaled back. The Municipality of Larnaca had previously announced completion in early 2026, later moving the deadline to April. However, according to the latest information, the entire project — including the parking area on Artemidos Avenue — will only be completed by June or July next year.

Mayor Andreas Vyras stated that the delays are primarily due to plan changes prompted by public complaints, as well as restrictions on construction timelines. The park is being developed in a sensitive Natura area near the Larnaca Salt Lake on a state-owned plot covering 381,609 m². The park will include walking routes, a playground, sports fields, relaxation zones, and facilities for physical activities. Accessibility features for people with disabilities will also be provided, with multiple entrance points planned.
