The first phase of the new Mental Health Centre in Nicosia has been completed.
To mark this important event, an inauguration ceremony was held in the capital on Monday 9 December.
The event was attended by Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulidis, Greek Deputy Health Minister Dimitris Vartsopoulos and other senior officials. The island nation's leader said this was a very important project that should become a benchmark in mental health care in Cyprus.

It is recalled that the works will be carried out from 2 November 2022 to 30 September 2024. During this time, the contractor Cyfield Group managed to build a modern building that includes an emergency room with 50 beds, multi-purpose rooms, offices for medical staff, creative workshops for occupational therapy classes, a 20-bed unit for drug addicts, a rehabilitation unit for alcohol addicts, outpatient clinics and even a gym. For the convenience of staff and patients, there is ample parking close to the centre.
The new building is expected to provide rehabilitation and reintegration into society for people with mental disorders.
The total cost of the project is estimated at 12 million euros + VAT. Of this amount, 6 million 800 thousand euros has been allocated by the European Economic Recovery Fund. It should be noted that the building will be maintained by a contractor for 12 years. Cyfield Group noted that the project has been carried out to the highest standards. The developer has done everything possible to create comfortable conditions for both patients and staff.
It is worth mentioning that Cyprus and Greece are currently discussing cooperation in the field of mental health, including the exchange of experiences and best practices.
