The Cyprus Ministry of Town Planning and Housing announced the signing of a contract for an ambitious project - the creation of a linear park on the old railway line at Kokkinotrimithia in the Nicosia area.
The ceremony took place in a solemn atmosphere. The contract was signed on behalf of the client by Kyriakos Koundouros, Director of the Authority, and on behalf of the contractor by Constantina Haralambous, representative of KEDRIS CONSTRUCTIONS LTD.
The new green oasis, which will soon beautify the district of the Cypriot capital, is expected to be an important part of the efforts towards sustainable development and modernisation of public spaces.
The works will take 20 months to complete and the total cost of the project is estimated at €1,734,048.17 (excluding VAT). Funding will be provided in the following ratio: two thirds from the Ministry and one third from the budget of the Kokkinotrimithia Municipal Council.
According to the Ministry's official statement, the aim of the project is to transform the former railway line into a modern linear public space with green spaces, recreational areas and opportunities for active leisure. The new infrastructure will not only beautify the area, but will also improve the quality of life for residents and contribute to the harmonious coexistence of the urban environment and nature.
.
The project includes:
- A landscaped pedestrian and cycle path connecting to the existing and planned road network;
- A playground for children and a fitness area for adults;
- Platforms with benches and canopies ideal for relaxation;
- Landscaping;
- a safe transport system for pedestrians, cyclists and people with disabilities.
Special attention will be paid to environmental aspects - the project aims to green the built area, reduce pollution and promote sustainable modes of transport. The linear park will also contribute to the preservation of the region's cultural and natural heritage.
The creation of the new park is one of the initiatives of the Ministry of the Interior's Strategic Plan, which aims to develop and revitalise both urban and rural areas.
The creation of a linear park on the site of the old railway is not just an improvement to the area, but an investment in the future, health, the environment and the well-being of the community. Kokkinotrimithia will soon have a modern, safe and inspiring space where everyone can find a place to walk, socialise and relax in the fresh air.
