The Cyprus Environment Ministry has granted permission for the construction of a new Alfamega supermarket in the Paralimni municipality.
According to the department, it will be built near the salt lake.
The approximate cost of the project is estimated at €6 million and the implementation period is 12 months, after obtaining all the necessary permits. The project concerns the construction and operation of a single commercial complex comprising a four-storey building, a car park for 106 cars (including five disabled spaces), bicycle parking and open green areas.
The building will have two loading and unloading bays, a large retail area, a restaurant, a kitchen, dining areas and utility rooms. Photovoltaic panels and electromechanical rooms will be located on the roof of the building.
Access to the project will be via 1 April Avenue and a road running parallel to the northern boundary of plot 1151, which will be an extension of the public road as a result of the subdivision. According to the architect's calculations, the land area of the development site is 3,752 m2, the green area 662 m2 and the building itself 1,396 m2.
The plots of land of the project site are located in the zone of the groundwater system and are more than 800 metres away from the eastern boundaries of the protected area of the NATURA 2000 network "Paralimni Lake", which is designated as a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and Special Protection Area. According to the Ministry, the construction of the supermarket will not have a negative impact on the environment in the region.
