In a bold move to be environmentally sustainable and slash energy costs, Thanos Club Hotels Ltd has announced the installation of a 445kW photovoltaic system next to the 5-star Anassa Hotel. This cutting-edge system will fully cover the needs of the hotel complex.
The Cyprus Department of Environment has granted the necessary authorisation for the project, noting that it fully complies with environmental regulations and sustainable development principles.
The new photovoltaic system will be installed in the car park of the Anassa Hotel. Spanning 6,430 m2, the system is a testament to the commitment of the hotel to sustainability. The installation will generate electricity from renewable sources to cover the hotel's needs. The Net Billing connection method will optimise energy consumption and significantly reduce the hotel's costs.
It is important to note that the project will be implemented near the Natura 2000 area, 200 metres from the Akamas Peninsula. However, we can assure you that it will not damage natural ecosystems and will not have a negative impact on the flora and fauna of the region. To ensure environmental safety, the project will comply with strict requirements:
- Lighting
External light sources must not exceed the level of illumination required solely for safety.
Luminaires must be enclosed and directed downward to prevent light pollution outside the complex.
Lighting should be minimised to preserve the natural habitat of native species.
- Landscaping
Only native plant species must be used in landscaping.
The use of pesticides is prohibited.
- Construction activities
All excavation and demolition works must be carried out outside the breeding, nesting and migration seasons of animals, which are July to August and November to February.
This project will reduce the Anassa Hotel's dependence on traditional energy sources and help preserve the natural ecosystem of Cyprus, following the principles of sustainable tourism.
