The construction of the new building for the hemodialysis unit at Paphos General Hospital has been completed.
It started admitting its first patients on Wednesday, February 14.
The spacious building is located to the east of the existing Paphos General Hospital. It houses a modern functional dialysis unit. The building has two floors. The ground floor is equipped with a patient reception and registration area, examination rooms, 27 hemodialysis stations, staff offices, changing rooms and utility rooms. On the second floor there is a duty rest room and other rooms. In addition, the building provides a hemodialysis room with a separate entrance for people with HIV and infectious diseases. The new unit also has a breastfeeding room, a room for peritoneal dialysis, and a small surgical room.
During the first surgeries and the beginning of the use of the unit, no problems were found. I am happy to report that patients in need of dialysis will be provided with quality services for at least the next 15 years," said Dr. Lakis Youkkas, Director of the Nephrology Department.
The total area of the building is 2.1 thousand m2.
It should be noted that the main focus in the design of the new department was to provide patients with high-quality care in a modern and well-studied environment. In addition, the architects took into account the needs of people with disabilities.
The project cost 4.737 million euros + VAT. All the money was allocated by the State Health Organization.
The project was coordinated by the Department of Public Works and monitored by officials from the Department of Public Works, the Department of Electromechanical Services and the Audit Department of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works. Under the terms of the contract, the contracting company A. Panayides Contracting Ltd. which carried out the construction and finishing works, will be responsible for the maintenance of the building for 12 years.
