The Cyprus Department of Environmental Protection has received an application from a property developer for the construction of a modern office building on the site of the former Curium Palace Hotel in Limassol.
As indicated in the press release, the total area of the proposed development on Byron Avenue will be 3,339 m².
Construction is scheduled to commence following the acquisition of all requisite permits and is projected to span approximately 30 months. The proposed development, which will stand at 54 metres in height and encompass nine storeys, will feature spacious offices and a roof garden. To facilitate employee mobility, a substantial parking facility with 103 spaces is to be constructed on the basement and ground floor. The estimated cost of the project is 22 million euros.
It should be recalled that the site in question was previously occupied by a four-star hotel, which for a considerable period of time was situated in close proximity to the municipal park and the Limassol Archaeological Museum. The demolition of the building was completed in the summer of 2023, following the conclusion of the local authorities that the structure did not possess any historical value for the city and was therefore not a candidate for inclusion in the list of tangible heritage objects protected by the state. Consequently, the investor who purchased the hotel was granted authorisation to proceed with the demolition.
Curium Palace is a four-star hotel that was inaugurated in 1948. The hotel is emblematic of the city's colonial history. It was named in honour of the ancient city of Curium, which is one of the most significant archaeological sites in Limassol. The hotel was designed by the renowned Austrian architect Benjamin Günsberg.
